Story is the best place to learn Anime Vanguards fundamentals because acts present defined lanes, waves, bosses, and rewards. Community documentation distinguishes Normal and Nightmare progression, but individual worlds, acts, modifiers, and drops should be checked in the current stage panel. Build for the act that blocks you rather than copying an endgame roster.
Before entering an act
Read the map, enemy preview, recommended elements or mechanics, difficulty, reward card, and clear requirement. Confirm whether you need a normal clear before Nightmare or a later act. If the panel shows a special enemy property, bring a unit that answers it rather than adding another generic damage dealer.
Placement and upgrades
Place near turns or overlapping lanes where the attack shape can connect longer. Keep enough path ahead for a second chance at fast enemies. Do not cluster every unit before you know the boss route or area attacks. Range is useful only when geometry adds targets.
Upgrade to solve the next wave. An early cheap breakpoint can outperform spreading one upgrade across every slot. Once the opening is stable, invest in the main carry, then add support when its effect reaches enough damage placements. Economy should never make the immediate defense fail.
Move from Normal to Nightmare
Nightmare should be treated as a new rules check, not a free replay with larger numbers. Reopen the panel, inspect modifiers and rewards, and verify that your team can handle the required enemies. A Normal farming team may lack the mechanic, durability, or boss output needed at the higher difficulty.
Use one failed run diagnostically. Note the first leak, wave, enemy type, cash, and upgrade state. Fix that cause: cheaper opener, different placement, earlier support, saved ability, or a unit with the required property. Replacing the entire roster makes the lesson harder to isolate.
Farm Story efficiently
Choose a reliable act whose current reward card contains the target item. Measure time from queue to claim and include failures. If a later act offers more per clear but takes twice as long, the earlier route may win. Confirm that Auto Skip or repeat settings do not reduce your consistency.
Stop when the recipe or quest target is met. Check Evolution Materials before accumulating an unnecessary surplus, and use Progression to decide the next mode.
Story clear review
After victory, record act, difficulty, completion time, first tight wave, final cash, and rewards actually received. Check whether the clear unlocked the next act, Nightmare, a quest, or another system. A clear is a progression event only after the result and claim are saved.
For repeat farming, run the act more than once and watch for target or timing variance. Simplify placements if the clear depends on one lucky critical or emergency ability. If a new update changes enemies or rewards, perform a manual validation before reusing the route.
Prepare a co-op clear
Before queueing with others, agree who covers the opening, who invests in economy, where supports go, and which abilities are saved for the boss. Avoid duplicate effects unless the live ability text confirms stacking. If the party changes, treat the run as a new test and watch the first waves before following the old upgrade schedule.
Story FAQ
When should I try Nightmare?
After the required Normal progress and when your team can answer the displayed modifier without sacrificing opening stability.
Why do I lose only to the boss?
Common causes are too much early economy, poor ability timing, insufficient single-target output, or spending on units that cannot reach the boss route.
