Anime Vanguards unit abilities can change more than Damage. A passive may scale through kills, elements, debuffs, team groups, or time; a manual ability may transform the unit, target a location, cleanse an effect, summon helpers, or trigger a global attack. Read the condition and cost before treating the largest percentage as permanent output.

Passive abilities
Passives operate when their condition is met. Some are always active after placement or upgrade, while others build stacks, respond to kills, require a matching unit group, or activate against a status. Write the passive in player order: condition, effect, duration, stack rule, cap, and reset.
If a passive says it buffs the team, test whether it affects the owner, every player, one element, one group, or units in Range. If several copies are placed, confirm whether the effect stacks, refreshes, or uses only the strongest copy. This matters more than a small difference in base stats.
Manual and global abilities
Manual abilities require timing. Record the button or selected unit, target choice, meter or cooldown, animation lock, effect area, and whether the ability pauses normal attacks. A global ability may still have a placement or team condition.
Save a boss-control ability for the mechanic it solves rather than pressing it as soon as it lights up. In multiplayer, announce a long cooldown so two players do not use equivalent control at once. If an ability repositions or selects a point, practice in a low-risk stage before relying on it in a Raid or Gauntlet defense.
Transformations, summons, and forms
A transformation can replace attacks, change stats, unlock abilities, or consume a resource for the remainder of the match. Capture both forms and the transition condition. A fusion or evolved form may require exact base units and can be irreversible outside the match.
Summoned helpers need their own fields: spawn trigger, duration, target behavior, inheritance, placement interaction, and whether the main unit can create more than one. Do not assume the helper receives every trait, stat, Familiar, Memoria, or support buff.
Status effects and boss rules
Control includes slow, stun, freeze, snare, repulse, and other effects. Damage-over-time and vulnerability effects can be separate. Record duration, immunity, resistance, and whether repeated applications stack or refresh. A Raid or Worldlines floor may disable a normally strong effect.
Cleansing belongs to the same decision. Public Raid documentation includes Snare mechanics that can prevent affected units from attacking until cleansed. In that encounter, a cleanser can be more valuable than another high-ranked damage dealer.
Test an ability cleanly
Use one repeatable enemy and remove external supports where possible. Note the unit form, upgrade, trait, stats, Familiar, Memoria, and patch date. Activate once, then measure trigger, targets, visible effect, duration, cooldown, and the unit’s position afterward. Repeat with the suspected requirement removed.
For a team buff, compare the same carry before and after. For control, compare enemy travel distance. For a manual nuke, compare total cycle cost and downtime rather than only the largest hit.
Build a team around conditions
Choose one primary win condition and satisfy it with the fewest slots. An element-based passive needs enough qualifying units without destroying early coverage. A debuff payoff needs a reliable applier. A long transformation needs economy and control to survive the setup. A global support needs carries that can use its window.
Use Best Teams to combine roles and Best Traits to avoid a trait that conflicts with placement or ability behavior.
Abilities FAQ
Does SPA reduce an ability cooldown?
Not automatically. SPA controls attack timing unless the ability text or current system explicitly links it to the cooldown.
Do passives stack from multiple copies?
It depends on the effect. Test or read the current description; never assume identical global buffs stack.
